Fitting & Size Guide
Choosing the right fitting and size makes all the difference. Each Slice Shade is crafted on an up-cycled frame, so fittings can vary slightly. Use this guide to understand how your shade fits and what to look for before ordering. Every product listing also includes the exact fitting for that shade.

Base Fitting
A base fitting sits on top of your lamp holder and is tightened in place with the lamp’s screw ring. Perfect for table lamps, bedside lamps and standing floor lamps.
Most Slice Shades are made with a standard UK/EU base fitting and will work with common lamp holders. Check the product listing for specifics.

Pendant Fitting
A pendant fitting sits directly onto your ceiling light holder. These are used for hanging shades and work with most standard UK/EU ceiling fittings.
If a Slice Shade is suitable for pendant use, it will be noted clearly in the listing.

Reversible Gimbal
Some Slice Shades include a reversible gimbal. This simply means the fitting ring can be positioned at the top or bottom of the frame, making the shade suitable for both a lamp base and a ceiling pendant.

Converter Ring (Reducer Ring)
A converter ring adapts the shade to fit different lamp holder sizes (typically E27 and B22).
Because Slice Shades are made on upcycled frames, fittings can vary:
– some frames have no ring,
– some have a smaller fixed metal ring,
– and some accept a standard reducer ring.

Size Guide - Choosing the right shade
Here are simple guidelines to help with proportions:
Small Shades
Perfect for bedsides, narrow tables, shelves or small corners.
(Approx 14–18cm height, 15–22cm diameter.)
Medium Shades
Ideal for sideboards, living rooms, consoles or reading corners.
Balances most standard table lamps well.
Statement Shades
Bold and impactful for larger lamps, living rooms, dining rooms or pendant use.
Best where you want the shade to become a feature.
As a general guide:
Choose a shade roughly 1.5–2x the width of your lamp base, and ensure the height feels balanced with the proportions of your furniture. If unsure, send a photo — I’m always happy to advise.
All Slice Shades are made for indoor use only and should be used with low-heat LED bulbs.
